    Search Engine Optimization is Key

The new year brings us grim economic news and a dim outlook for the near future. We at Web Worx are feeling the effects but our door is still open and the lights are on. Our loyal customers are surviving the crunch and we are happy to stand next to them while offering our support. It's been a few months since we launched the updated site. Well, we also wanted to see how we fared, so we had an opportunity to apply the same tools we use to track our clients web statistics to good use.

Now, all recent projects we delivered to our customers are built with SEO. But in most instances it's difficult to quantify SEO benefits as all of our clients use the "pay for" services from the main search engines to gain the web traffic advantage. Understandably, this is the best (and pretty much the only) way to achieve immediate results. However, it definitely skews web statistics.

Our company site is pure in that respect as we don't use the paid services pool to advertise. First, the budget does not allow it and it's not mission critical (at least not yet). But one benefit of that is we can quantify the effects of pure SEO. This being said, the word is - "It works!"

We see a definite advantage, but let's talk numbers. Our old site, pre-SEO, showed that just 36% of our traffic came from the search engines, the rest was direct links from sites where our work is referenced. Now, a whopping 74% is shown as originating in various search engines. What a difference! It's possible to editorialize a lot as to what SEO does and does not do for you, but our numbers are just that and we are glad to see this.
